young_professionals2.jpgStudents today have opportunities to venture into different areas of study. Having a triple major has allowed me to open my eyes to various educational fields. Public Relations as a major follows students in these vast areas. From spanish class to advertising, from student government and event planning for student organizations, the skills learned in class can help students in any experience. Do not hinder your skills as a public relations student, utilize them in any way you can. PR skills learned are often forgotten out of the classroom, but recognizing the need in other organizations and situations can benefit you and the much needed areas. Experience in the PR field doesn’t necessarily mean a PR internship, it can mean spreading out and seeking new and adventurous PR opportunities!

Here is a good blog post about the new face of public relations, check it out.

Another Year, Another Chance January 29, 2008

stress2.jpgYour senior is often criticized as your last chance to get all the information you need to learn before entering the PR profession. It will be your last chance to perfect those grammatical errors you seemingly forget, your last chance to network with professors and agencies, but it’s also your last chance to question who you are and what you want to do with your life.

PR students are often caught up remembering the format of a news release and the AP style for a coordinating conjunction that we forget that this is our last chance to make mistakes , enjoy a class or even make new friends. Understand that it is important to go to class and learn, focus, and read! However, in the midst of doing so, stand up, take a look around and question everything.

PR students should make their education their own, and know that it’s okay to question lessons, professors and the profession itself. It’s senior year, make it yours.

Here is a site dedicated to the people who don’t know what to do with their lives Career Assessment Tools & Tests, take some career quizzes and get some information.

AmandaHow many students are studying PR and have no idea what is really going on? I think a lot of us are sitting at our computers right now scared to death about the future, and asking if this really is what we want to do with our professional lives.

As a PR student, I want to open this blog to other PR students and share thoughts, fears, changes, challenges, in the student aspect of public relations.

I am student, not a practitioner, but I do share a common goal of making it to graduation with an strong understanding of this field and in the end, the dream job.

I will be honest about my experiences and struggles and I hope all who read this will be too. Thanks for reading and enjoy.
